Engine Diagnostics
Mechanic testing the engine of car

SERVICE OVERVIEW

Most likely, when you talk about a tune-up or using the Engine Diagnosticcs equipment, its probably because you’re experiencing some kind of driveability problem. Your vehicle might be getting hard to start, not getting the fuel mileage it once did, hesitating or stalling, knocking or not running with the same zip and power as before. Or, your vehicle may have failed an emissions test. So what you probably need is an engine performance analysis — and maybe a new set of spark plugs, too.

A simple maintenance type tune-up (a new set of plugs) may make an engine easier to start, improve fuel economy, lower emissions, restore lost pep and power, and so on provided engine performance deteriorated because of worn or fouled spark plugs. But if the problem lies elsewhere, the Engine Diagnostic check will identify what is causing the issues.

Our professionals know how to handle a wide range of performance and driveability issues. Whether you drive a passenger car or medium sized truck or SUV, our mechanics strive to ensure that your vehicle will be performing at its best.

POPULAR QUESTIONS

  • What is an Engine Diagnostic?

Engine Diagnostics refers to any type of manual or computerized assessment used to identify problems your car may be experiencing. Most cars today have an onboard computer that can interface with electronic diagnostic equipment and identify specific problems that are present.

  • Do I Need a Tune-up?

Newer cars with electronic ignition and fuel injection systems are scheduled to go from 25,000 miles to as many as 100,000 miles without needing a major tune-up.

Refer to your owner’s manual for recommended tune-up intervals, but be aware that even if it says that the vehicle doesn’t require scheduled tune-ups very often, it’s in your best interest to check periodically that your vehicle is working at peak efficiency.

    Common Symptons:

The car stalls a lot. The spark plugs may be fouled or worn, the gap between the spark plug electrodes may need adjusting, or an electronic sensing device may need to be adjusted.

The engine is running roughly when idling or when you accelerate. Chances are the vehicle needs a tune-up.

The car gets harder to start. The problem can be in the starting system (for example, a weak battery), in the fuel system (for example, a weak fuel pump), or in the ignition system, or can be due to a faulty electronic component, such as the electronic control unit (ECU).

The Check Engine Light comes on, this can be caused by your Catalytic converter having issues.

An Engine Diagnostic check will reveal the cause of the problem.
